Breastfeeding Initiative

To help facilitate sharing of breastfeeding knowledge, the West Coast Primary Health Organisation employ two breastfeeding advocates to '"improve breastfeeding rates, create environments supportive of breastfeeding, and improve access to services", thus benefiting West Coast families.

 
Breastfeeding Services, Support and Information
 
·         Free Lactation Consultancy Services ? International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) provide breastfeeding advice and support to women.
 
·         Peer Counselling Programme ? Mum4Mum ? women are trained to help and support other breastfeeding mothers within their community.  Mum4Mum's are volunteers, have breastfed and have completed training on breastfeeding.
 
·         Promotion of Breastfeeding Friendly Environments through:
-    free education and resource provision across the community
-    working with local communities and iwi.
 
 
Additional Groups and Services Provided include: 
  • assistance to workplaces to be breastfeeding friendly
  • health and social workers breastfeeding education
  • B.A.B.E.S in Arms (Babies & Breastfeeding Education & Support) - women sharing information, support and friendship.  For more information phone Anna 03 732 3641.
